December 2011

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, today unveiled a new generation of digital imaging systems offering versatile multifunction performance, innovative security and advanced mobility capabilities in an attractive, space-saving design.

The Ricoh Aficio MP 2352/MP 2852/MP 3352 A3 monochrome platform, ranging in speed from 23 to 33 pages per minute, offers a range of scan/copy/print/fax configurations in smaller-than-ever dimensions. The new “I”-style design – cube-shaped in neutral grays with a footprint of 23 inches by 26 inches – helps squeeze big productivity into compact office environments.

To accommodate increasing numbers of mobile workers, the MP 2352/MP 2852/MP 3352 introduces optional walk-up mobility features. Users can Scan-to/Print-from a USB thumb drive or SD card for many file formats, including PDF, JPEG and TIFF. Alternatively, Ricoh’s optional HotSpot printing application can support mobile printing from most Internet-enabled devices.

The MP 2352/MP 2852/MP 3352 system is Ricoh’s first A3 monochrome solution with optional internal finishing, making it capable of auto duplexing, collating and stapling sets of up to 11 inches by 17 inches without increasing the system’s footprint.
To help organizations streamline document workflow, every unit includes a license to Ricoh’s Personal Paperless Document Manager (PPDM) software, an innovative productivity tool that converts scanned paper documents into searchable, editable electronic files.

For improved security of sensitive corporate information, the new platform comes standard with DataOverwriteSecurity System (DOSS) and Hard Disk Drive (HDD) encryption capabilities.

As part of Ricoh’s commitment toward environmental sustainability, the platform improves its TEC values over its predecessor, meeting ENERGY STAR qualification and offers a quick recovery time with less than 10 seconds (SP models).

This new platform is part of a broad array of equipment Ricoh employs in Managed Document Services (MDS) engagements to solve a range of information management challenges. The MP 2352/MP 2852/MP 3352 can be easily integrated with other key components of a cohesive document strategy, such as the GlobalScan™ scan-to-email solution, the DocumentMall™ cloud-based document-sharing platform, and the Ricoh @Remote™ Intelligent Management System for optimizing device fleets.

The MP 2352/MP 2852/MP 3352 starts at $4,780 MSRP. The copy/print/scan configurations include a 50-Sheet ARDF, 1 GB of RAM, a 120 GB hard drive for storage, a Java VM card for developing customized applications, and one PPDM activation license.

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, today unveiled a line of multifunction products (MFPs) that offer unparalleled power and affordability for busy workgroups in the 10-to-30-person range. The Ricoh® Aficio® SP 5200S/SP 5210SF/SP 5210SR Digital Imaging System is an A4 platform that inherits all the design and engineering qualities of Ricoh’s market-leading A3 MFPs but in a smaller footprint and at a lower purchase price.

Responding to market demands, these new A4 MFPs deliver on the promise of advanced capabilities, seamless integration with Ricoh’s productivity-enhancing solutions and simplified maintenance.

The SP 5200S series offers monochrome copy, print and fax capabilities as well as color scanning with printing speeds of 47 to 52 pages per minute, plus many more advantages over other products in its category, including:
• A large, 8.5-inch, full-color tilting LCD touch screen control panel that displays simple, animated operating instructions for uninterrupted productivity.
• An unmatched range of intuitive capabilities for document capture and distribution, including Scan-to-Email/Folder/URL with LDAP support.
• Simple maintenance with standard Ricoh supplies, an easily accessible all-in-one print cartridge rated for 25,000 pages, and a maintenance kit rated to last 120,000 pages.
•Integrated finishing instead of bulky attachments that would expand the footprint.
• Low cost per page

Powerful engine in a small space
Though occupying considerably less space, the SP 5200S series uses the same controller found in multifunction products costing three times as much. “This versatile system is among the most significant product introductions we’ll make this year,” said Shun Sato, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “Given that we’re the market leader in A3 products, broadening the A4 line enables us to better meet all of our customers’ needs, advancing the strategic information management initiatives we help them execute.”

By reducing cost but not performance, the SP 5200S series serves as an ideal component of a comprehensive Ricoh Managed Document Services (MDS) engagement. The series is fully integrated with the Ricoh @Remote™ Intelligent Management System for optimizing device fleets. ENERGY STAR compliant, the series offers sustainability features such as automatic duplexing for two-sided printing.

In addition to supporting workgroups, with optional IPDS technology, this MFP line supports the back office by printing invoices and other business documents directly from business servers like the IBM AS/400. To help protect sensitive information from a multitude of threats, the SP 5200S series includes a full range of advanced security features, such as user authentication, hard drive data overwrite, SSL encryption, Wi-Fi Protect Access Support and optional ID card reader support.

The SP 5200S series starts at $3,299 MSRP and includes printer-only configurations in the SP 5200DN/SP 5210DN models. Producing 47 and 52 pages per minute respectively, the SP 5200DN and SP 5210DN offer many of the same capabilities as the MFPs, including automatic duplexing, high-performance paper handling and the latest security features. Designed to minimize total cost of ownership, these space-saving devices can expand from desktop models to five-tray floor-standing powerhouses.

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, has achieved certification from IDEAlliance for the Ricoh® Pro C901/C901s Graphic Arts Edition, signifying that the color production printing system, coupled with EFI Fiery print servers, meets or exceeds established industry tolerances for excellence in colorimetric accuracy, repeatability, durability and registration. This independent verification, from the leading standards body for production printing and other digital media processes, complements Ricoh’s signature quality, reliability and service on the Pro C901/C901s.

“When customers see the IDEAlliance certification seal next to the EFI and Ricoh names, they know they’re looking at systems that have been put through rigorous testing and evaluation against the real-world quality measures that printing professionals and consumers demand,” said Steven Bonoff, Executive Vice President Marketing at IDEAlliance.

The Ricoh Pro C901/C901s Graphic Arts Edition is engineered to deliver exceptional quality and performance for the most demanding production print environments. It combines consistent 1200 dpi output with 90 pages-per-minute speed, regardless of media type or weight, even when duplexing. It delivers near-offset results with Ricoh’s PxP™ chemical toners and oil-free fusing technology. Smaller, more uniform toner particles deliver sharper images and better fills with a matte finish for commercial-quality output.

The certified system included EFI’s Fiery E-41 and E-81 print servers, which target a wide range of production printing environments from light production to extreme, mission-critical printing environments where advanced color management, high productivity and speed are essential for success. The Fiery E-41 and E-81 servers include advanced hardware and Fiery System 9 Release 2 software.

“The Ricoh Pro C901/901s demonstrates how customers can benefit from Fiery’s versatility, speed and reliable performance,” said John Henze, Vice President of Fiery marketing at EFI. “EFI and Ricoh achieved certification in the areas of color, press sheet properties and print production, giving customers an extra level of assurance when making an investment decision.”

The certification demonstrates Ricoh’s commitment to independently documenting the performance and quality of its production printing systems, which played a significant role earlier this year in Heidelberg’s addition of the Ricoh Pro C901 Graphic Arts Edition to its portfolio of production products.

“The Digital Press Certification from IDEAlliance on the Pro C901/C901s Graphic Arts Edition reinforces what the market has already realized, which is that the Pro C901/C901S produces consistent, accurate and predictable color,” said Tim Vellek, Vice President, for Ricoh’s Production Printing Business Group (PPBG). “Our production customers should expect nothing less than that in their Ricoh investment.”

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, today announced that IKON Office Solutions, a Ricoh company, continues to win high marks for serving the legal profession and is the readers’ choice for best document management service provider in three prominent publications: The New York Law Journal, Connecticut Law Tribune and The Recorder of California.

A fourth journal, Philadelphia’s Legal Intelligencer, awarded Ricoh a bronze in this category, as well as a silver in electronic discovery and a gold in office equipment. Connecticut Law Tribune readers also awarded Ricoh the gold in the office equipment category.

“The legal profession is one of the most demanding settings for document management and supporting technology,” said Mark Davey, Vice President, Legal Enterprise Solutions, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “Volume is high, accuracy is mandatory, and time is of the essence. We embrace this challenge, and we’re grateful that readers are affirming our strong performance. That’s why so many legal organizations come to us, including nearly 90 percent of Am Law 200 and NLJ 250 firms, as well as many Fortune 1000 companies.”

Final awards are based on 2011 survey results. Thousands of readers cast votes across the four publications. The voting was conducted via online ballots compiled by the publications. Readers were notified of the ballot through direct emails and online advertisements linking to the ballot across ALM’s network of websites. Each ballot consisted of categories encompassing areas such as technology, research, accounting, insurance, financial services, litigation support, education, recruiting and staffing. Once voting was completed, the ballot was scrubbed of all non-eligible, non-end-user votes. The final totals and rankings reflect only the votes cast by legitimate end-users.

Ricoh’s comprehensive solutions for the legal market combine the people and experience of IKON with the innovation and technology of Ricoh to provide practice support, office administration and IT services including electronic discovery, records management, cost recovery and facilities management. Ricoh’s legal offerings are designed to help law firms and corporate counsel reduce costs, support green initiatives and focus on their core competencies so they can stay ahead of their competition.

The Ricoh Pro C901 Graphic Arts Edition will help provide VISOgraphic with greater quality, better versatility and quicker turnaround times to more effectively meet its customers’ wide range of design, fulfillment and printing project requirements. Serving the Chicago land area since 1946, VISOgraphic is a digital and conventional graphic communications company. In addition to digital and conventional printing, VISOgraphic also specializes in web-based on-demand collateral systems, direct mail, variable data and hybrid printing, corporate collateral, digital publishing options for the web, and green printing solutions. VISOgraphic also offers full graphic design, bindery and finishing, and mailing and fulfillment services, making it a “one-stop shop” for customers’ visual communication needs.

“The employees at VISOgraphic understand how critical printed materials are to our customers’ ability to effectively promote their products and services,” said Robert V. Dahlke, President, VISOgraphic. “We have offered quality printing, design and mail services for more than 60 years, so our customers have access to everything they need to create their visual communication projects – from initial concept to completion. Coupled with our new digital and web-based offerings, we strive to deliver content where and how our clients want it. The C901 adds to our inventory of solutions.”

Engineered to meet the demanding needs of the production print environment, the Ricoh Pro C901 Graphic Arts Edition delivers exceptional quality and performance for the most complex applications. It combines consistent 1200 dpi output with 90 pages-per-minute speed, regardless of media type or weight, even in duplex mode. It delivers near-offset results with Ricoh’s new PxP™ chemical toners and oil-free fusing technology, where smaller, more uniform toner particles deliver sharper images and better fills with a matte finish for commercial-quality output.

“With its superior quality, high speeds and state-of-the-art workflow applications, the Ricoh Pro C901 Graphic Arts Edition is setting a new standard in color digital print quality and productivity,” said Brian Balow, Vice President, Production Sales, Ricoh U.S. “In addition, with our extensive experience in digital printing, we can help printers expand their business and assist them in using technology and advanced solutions to help them succeed.”

Its modular design enables a number of input and output configurations, and offers many production tools for advanced page programming requirements like tabs, inserts, covers and chapter breaks.

“Over the last couple of years, we’ve seen the industry demand more printing jobs with smaller runs that incorporate variable data,” said Dahlke. “To meet this increased demand, we needed to add another digital color production unit to our fleet. We investigated several different digital presses and performed extensive due diligence testing on each of them. The Ricoh C901 Graphic Arts Edition stood out because of its great quality combined with an attractive price point, giving us the ability to immediately enhance our graphic design and variable data offerings for customers.”

The Ricoh Pro C901 Graphic Arts Edition is designed to reduce maintenance requirements and is backed by Ricoh’s team of locally based service and support professionals. In addition, Ricoh production print customers can take advantage of the Ricoh Business Booster Program, an integrated package of services and tools designed to help customers grow their business.

It is this kind of support that led VISOgraphic to purchase the Ricoh Pro C901 Graphic Arts Edition. “Being a Heidelberg shop, we were excited to hear about Ricoh’s new partnership with Heidelberg. For Heidelberg to select Ricoh as their new digital partner says a lot about the quality of their product. We are a first-time Ricoh customer, and they have been with us every step of the process, through the purchase, delivery, set up and training,” said Dahlke. “The Ricoh service team has been impressive as well. November 2011

Nov 24 - IMPACT OF THE THAI FLOODS

October 2011

Ricoh Company, Ltd., a worldwide leader in digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, has been named a leader in Gartner, Inc.’s “Magic Quadrant: Managed Print Services Worldwide.”(1)

Managed print services (MPS) is defined as the active management and optimization of document output devices and related business processes.(2) While many MPS offerings focus tightly on devices and print management, Ricoh Managed Document Services™ (Ricoh MDS) addresses all business information, including its input (creation), throughput (workflow) and output (processing for added business value), whether paper-based or electronic. As a result, companies gain access to the right information at the right time in the right form.

According to Gartner, Leaders provide MPS to a wide range of customers, including the largest and most geographically dispersed, so they must demonstrate a truly global reach. They must demonstrate not only the skills to deliver today’s MPS, but also the understanding, initiative and resources to prepare for tomorrow’s MPS. Leaders characteristically augment the full scope of MPS with a wide range of added-value services. As a result, they are frequently shortlisted by large and midsize customers.

“We consider our Leaders quadrant position in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant as confirmation of our strategy to deliver solutions that extend beyond MPS to the entire business information workflow,” said Sergio Kato, Associate Director of Ricoh Company, Ltd. and General Manager of Global MDS Center. “Our services can help customers manage document costs while enabling them to create smart, agile work environments with more rapid, intuitive access to information, giving them a distinct advantage over competitors. This approach, and our ability to deliver Ricoh Managed Document Services consistently across the globe, has given us strong momentum in the MPS market.”

Ricoh is uniquely equipped to help customers achieve their goals through an adaptive, customer-focused approach that includes holistic, vendor-agnostic infrastructure management and a global force of 30,000 professionals reaching 95 percent of the Global Fortune 500. Solutions address a wide variety of challenges around documents, including the growing concern of environmental sustainability.

Ricoh MDS is designed to not only help customers achieve better efficiencies related to document management, but also improve an organization’s ability to serve customers and compete in increasingly global and connected markets. This approach directly addresses the depletion of productivity that comes with employees spending hours each day searching for or recreating information that already exists.

Ricoh helps ensure the success of MDS engagements with a proven Organizational Change Management process based on Procsi’s ADKAR® (Awareness, Desire, Knowledge, Ability, Reinforcement) methodology, a goal-oriented framework for managed, properly sequenced change in order to achieve a desired business result. This systematic approach helps make process improvements a permanent part of the culture.

Oct 28 - RICOH ESTABLISHES SALES COMPANY IN VIETNAM
Ricoh Company, Ltd., a worldwide leader in digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, today announced Ricoh Managed Document Services™ (Ricoh MDS) 2.0, born from an in-depth analysis of customer engagements and focused on measurable results.

MDS 2.0 represents significant early progress in the evolution of the services-led business model Ricoh unveiled in January 2011, as it made a three-year commitment to enhance its global MDS infrastructure. The strategy shift was intended to leverage the power of improved document workflows and document management so that customers can concentrate on their business goals and bottom lines.

As part of Ricoh MDS 2.0, Ricoh today unveiled a new global website that serves as a source of information and guidance to help customers achieve their business goals through Ricoh Managed Document Services. The site includes case studies, white papers and videos, delivering this content via a customized user experience.

Defining the Ricoh MDS challenge
Through its global MDS engagements, Ricoh has scrutinized thousands of projects and pinpointed customers’ top business concerns in managed print services (MPS), which is the foundation of “Ricoh MDS, MPS and Beyond™.” These concerns have yielded a new Ricoh MDS delivery structure focused tightly on producing desired outcomes in these areas.

The top identified concerns are cost control, environmental sustainability, information security and governance, business process efficiency, organizational change management, information worker (iWorker) productivity, information optimization and strategic infrastructure. Ricoh MDS 2.0 defines the services and deliverables that map directly to each concern to help customers achieve measurable and sustainable business outcomes.

“We applied our expertise and sharpened our focus on what customers need, even when they can’t articulate their requirements in so many words,” said Sergio Kato, Associate Director of Ricoh Company, Ltd. and General Manager of Global MDS Center. “Our refined service delivery methodology is designed to better help customers meet their business objectives while retaining the flexibility they need to overcome their unique challenges.”

Ricoh MDS Adaptive Model
Using these new insights, Ricoh has streamlined its delivery framework, producing a new, simpler five-phased Adaptive Model. With the customer at the center, the first phase – Understand – begins with an expert assessment of the customer’s “current state.” The Improve phase includes the design of a “desired state.” The Transform phase focuses on deployment, the Govern phase ensures all objectives are met, and the Optimize phase addresses ongoing improvements and sustained savings.

The new model strengthens the three stages of partnership engagement: Project Management led by PMI®- and PRINCE2®-certified Ricoh project managers who follow globally accepted best practices to track, manage and measure each engagement; Service Management led by ITIL®/ISO 20000-1-certified professionals who ensure the newly transformed environment is effectively governed and optimized; and Organizational Change Management, which accelerates the transition from the current to the desired state, and makes productivity gains a permanent part of the culture.

This new framework creates a globally cohesive approach to executing MDS programs based entirely on the ways Ricoh customers prefer to do business. Refinements are already paying dividends: since April, Ricoh has signed more than 10 global customers, including one that operates in more than 70 countries.

New sustainability services
Leveraging Ricoh’s rich history of environmental stewardship, including being named one of the “Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World” (1) for seven years in a row, Ricoh has evolved its MDS service portfolio by introducing a comprehensive set of end-to-end sustainability services. These offerings can be combined in different ways to address the unique needs of Ricoh MDS customers across the globe. They include:

• analysis and definition of the baseline carbon footprint from electricity and paper consumption;
• creation of an optimization design with measurable reduction targets;
• implementation of the design along with education and training;
• governance and monitoring of sustainability performance to identify and action any gaps between actual performance and defined targets; and
• guidance for balancing any remaining and unavoidable carbon footprint (EU market only).

“We’re detecting a deepening demand among our customers for sustainability, which has become an integral part of a business’s brand as well as an ethical imperative,” said Ike Kakegawa, Vice President, Environmental Sustainability, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “As we have demonstrated for years, sustainability is squarely in our domain: documents, records and electronic information have significant implications for a company’s environmental performance on a number of levels. Further, reducing our customers’ environmental footprint is an integral part of Ricoh’s strategy to achieve our social responsibility goals.”

Ricoh has delivered custom MDS solutions to customers around the world. For customer success stories on Ricoh’s MDS approach, please visit mds.ricoh.com.

Ideal for business people rushing to meetings or road warriors who present every day, the new Ricoh PJ Series builds on Ricoh’s half century of manufacturing high-quality business equipment. This track record includes multifunction devices, production printing equipment, and precision optics for other manufacturers’ printers and projectors.

“Businesses looking for high-quality mobile digital projection systems would be wise to add Ricoh to their shortlists,” said Dr. William Cogshall, president of Pacific Media Associates, a market research group specializing in front projectors. “Ricoh is a formidable newcomer to the U.S. projector market. They bring a long and credible background in technology and manufacturing, including excellence in optics. And their well-established, multichannel sales and service approach gives them some important and unique strengths in the market.”
The Ricoh PJ Series consists of the PJ X3131,PJ WX3231N, PJ WX3131, PJ X3241N and PJ X3241, and range in price from $800 to $1,200 MSRP depending on resolution, networkability and USB options.

The new equipment expands Ricoh’s evolving Managed Document Services offering, which helps customers grow their bottom line through improved document management, streamlined workflow and higher productivity. The projectors also foreshadow next year’s rollout of more Ricoh business communications solutions, including videoconferencing and short-throw projection systems.

Bright, light and wired
All five PJ Series projectors offer brilliant, high-quality projection. They deliver sharp, engaging images in any kind of light with a minimum brightness rating of at least 2,500 lumens, XGA or WXGA resolution, and 3LCD color clarity.

Designed specifically for fast, easy transport and setup, the projectors weigh less than 4.4 pounds and come with their own carrying case. The built-in speaker is capable of filling larger corporate or classroom settings. For permanent installation, the projectors can easily be mounted in ceilings and walls.

Advanced networking capabilities integrate the PJ WX3231N and PJ X3241N projectors with local wired and wireless networks to streamline workflow and enhance presentations for greater impact. Users can start their presentations quickly on a shared-use projector, remotely manage settings for multiple projectors, and deliver computer-free presentations via USB devices like thumb drives, document cameras, digital cameras or smart phones. Networking capabilities also enable two-way discussions and brainstorming sessions over the network.

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions, is spotlighting its range of solutions to better manage healthcare information this week at the AHIMA Convention & Exhibit, a major event in Salt Lake City for health information professionals.

Ricoh offers deep experience in the healthcare vertical, having provided services to over 700 U.S. hospitals in the past two decades. Better focus on document management and information infrastructure has the potential to yield significant financial benefits. In one case, the use of Ricoh Healthcare services saved the University of Louisville Hospital $1.6 million over a five year period.
At AHIMA, Ricoh unveiled its Ricoh Rapid Process Assessment (RPA) business process analysis methodology as part of the Ricoh Healthcare portfolio. Ricoh RPA is designed as a first step for helping clients with disparate technologies and manual paper-based processes to jumpstart their improvement initiatives.

Ricoh RPA uncovers a healthcare organization’s most pressing needs in information management staffing, technology and methods, providing a current state picture and roadmap to help drive measurable improvement. Subsequent process redesign, re-engineering and enabling technologies can help eliminate silos that slow information delivery and burden clinicians and administrators.
“The first step in solving a problem is defining the problem as thoroughly and objectively as possible,” said Jon Elwell, Vice President, Healthcare for Ricoh U.S. “This way, the solution fits the need rather than forcing everyone to adapt to an arbitrary new process enforced by a new technology. Sound methods like Ricoh RPA fills this need for our healthcare customers.”

Uniquely tailored assessments
Just one instrument in the Ricoh Healthcare toolset, Ricoh RPA includes discrete benchmarking for comparison with other hospital systems, predictive modeling, and process analytics that verify findings and identify cost-saving opportunities. Designed specifically for healthcare, Ricoh RPA uniquely tailors assessments for every department and process within a healthcare organization. It also leverages Six Sigma quality management principles.

Solutions include a performance management framework with key performance indicators (KPIs) for continuous improvement. And because assessments often cover processes that cross departmental boundaries, recommendations may include consolidation of operations into shared services infrastructures that create economies of scale.

Ricoh can work with organizations to prescribe customized department-specific and healthcare-enterprise-wide solutions for managed document services and enterprise document management, as well as on-site and off-site managed services, technical services and support, and customized workflow design and implementation. RPA and other Ricoh Healthcare solutions are specifically designed to help organizations:

• Improve operational processes and workflow efficiency
• Share electronic patient records across the healthcare enterprise
• Remotely access patient information
• Improve patient data capture for meaningful use
• Better contain or reduce document management costs
• Establish a more efficient and effective information infrastructure

Sep 29 - RICOH ENDORSES “THE 2°C CHALLENGE COMMUNIQUÉ” JOINT DECLARATION ON CLIMATE CHANGE
Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, today announced the availability of the Aficio SP 4310N monochrome laser printer, engineered for busy offices and workgroups. Advanced features and workflow tools, such as genuine Adobe® PostScript®3™, a 4-line LCD panel with an integrated 12-key alphanumeric keypad, and an optional 80 GB Hard Disk Drive (HDD), contribute to better productivity and improved security with a reduced total cost of ownership.

The Aficio SP 4310N is one of Ricoh’s mid-volume B&W printers that fit into the company’s overall Managed Document Services (MDS) strategy. Ricoh MDS is designed to address customers’ document management needs for greater energy and cost savings by guiding organizations through a transformation process that, among other things, establishes effective print practices designed to help improve workflow and increase productivity.

Improved Productivity
The Aficio SP 4310N replaces the Aficio SP 4210N in Ricoh’s monochrome laser printer product line. The SP 4310N uses Ricoh’s premier GW Architecture Controller to quickly process every job in the user’s choice of genuine Adobe® PostScript®3™ that supports 136 Adobe fonts, PCL 5e/6, or XPS page description languages. In addition, the SP 4310N supports a number of host-print environments. Like its predecessor, the networked SP 4310N maintains first print speeds of seven seconds or less and an output speed of 37 pages per minute (Letter) at resolutions up to 1200 x 600 dpi. Windows and Mac compatible, the SP 4310N is equipped with a 466 MHz CPU and 256 MB RAM (expandable to 512 MB).

Ease of Use
The Aficio SP 4310N is also designed to maximize uptime in a user-friendly manner.
The printer incorporates a redesigned 4-line LCD panel with an integrated 12-key alphanumeric keypad. The larger LCD allows for at-a-glance supply monitoring and more informative system status messages; the keypad makes it easier to enter network settings and numerical values.

Paper sizes are easily adjusted up to 8.5” x 14”, and users can add one or two optional 500-sheet Paper Feed Units to the standard 500-sheet Tray for a maximum paper capacity of 1,600 sheets (including the 100-sheet Bypass Tray) to minimize interruptions in busy workgroup environments. Further, the SP 4310N uses Ricoh’s 15,000-page All In One (AIO) print cartridge supplies that can be changed in seconds and deliver low cost per page factors.

Eco-Friendly
The Aficio SP 4310N also boasts energy-saving features that help to further reduce total cost of ownership. ENERGY STAR compliant, the SP 4310N includes a Toner Saving Mode that helps increase print cartridge yields, N-in-1 print modes that combine multiple pages onto a single sheet of paper, and optional Automatic Duplexing that outputs two-sided prints.

Security
A solution-ready printer, the Aficio SP 4310N can be expanded to meet an individual account’s unique workflow requirements with optional Embedded Software Architecture™ (ESA) applications, IPDS printing, or upgraded security functions. Support for multiple user authentication modes and 128-/256-bit SSL data encryption protect print jobs and passwords from theft, while the new Printer Driver Editor allows administrators to enforce printing rules by setting and locking driver settings for individual users.

Increased security can be achieved with an optional 80 GB Hard Disk Drive (HDD) which includes a HDD Encryption Unit and the Data Overwrite Security System (DOSS). The HDD Encryption Unit supports secure local document storage for up to 9,000 pages and an easy to use Locked Print feature for confidential documents, while DOSS when activated automatically overwrites the HDD after each job.

The Aficio SP 4310N has a starting MSRP of $799.00. For more information on the SP 4310N and Ricoh’s full-line of products, visit www.ricoh-usa.com.

Heidelberg USA and Ricoh Americas Corporation today announced that the United States and Brazil have been chosen as the first markets in the Americas in the phased global rollout of the new Heidelberg and Ricoh strategic cooperation. Heidelberg Chairman Bernhard Schreier and Heidelberg USA President Jim Dunn along with Ricoh Company, Ltd. CEO Shiro Kondo and Ricoh Americas Corporation Chairman and CEO Kevin Togashi, formally announced today the contract signing at a press conference during GRAPH EXPO in Chicago, Ill.

The relationship enables Heidelberg to sell Ricoh’s latest color digital press, the Ricoh Pro C901 Graphic Arts Edition, as part of Heidelberg’s total print solution.

Jim Dunn of Heidelberg USA commented, “We have worked closely with the Ricoh regional management team in the Americas and have agreed on the best strategy for introducing Ricoh into Heidelberg’s U.S. and Latin American markets. These countries are the first step, and we will continue to introduce Ricoh into Heidelberg operations in other markets through a phased approach.”

The two companies entered into a global strategic partnership agreement in February this year. Heidelberg’s and Ricoh’s future plans include integration with Heidelberg’s industry-standard workflow solution in the graphic arts industry, Prinect, as well as joint development activities for future printing applications.

Kevin Togashi of Ricoh Americas Corporation said, “Heidelberg and Ricoh share an uncompromising commitment to excellence. We are both dedicated to offering a broad and balanced range of solutions that truly embrace the era of digital and offset convergence with uncompromising customer service. Together, we will continue to share our knowledge and expertise in developing the best printing models that meet the needs of our customers.”

Addressing the market need of integrated print production Digital printing continues to grow as commercial printers extend their business models to offer marketing services, short-run color and same-day service. Offset printers are increasingly seeking to complete their portfolios with a flexible digital solution integrated into their existing high-quality offset environment. The Ricoh and Heidelberg relationship supports these customers in growing their core offset business and enables them to offer more flexibility to their clients using Ricoh’s latest digital print technology. Today, offset printers have access to a nearly unlimited range of printing substrates and state-of-the-art coating applications as well as specialty inks through Heidelberg’s market-leading offerings. By adding Ricoh’s digital production printing technology, professional printers will be able to offer the well-known advantages of variable data printing, instant delivery of urgent print jobs, and cost-effective production of shorter run lengths

The combination of offset and digital printing now available from Heidelberg enables print shops to respond with flexibility to customer requirements by offering profitable variable data printing and shorter runs in addition to cost-efficient, high-quality offset printing.

Interplay of Offset and Digital Printing offering additional flexibility The Ricoh Pro C901 Graphic Arts Edition addresses the needs of commercial printers to build a highquality, digital color printing environment. Featuring a production speed of 90 pages per minute (ppm), it is easily the fastest and most productive system in the digital value segment. This segment includes systems providing production speeds between 60 ppm and 90 ppm with an average monthly production volume from 80,000 to 300,000 A4 pages and beyond. Providing high-quality output, the Ricoh Pro C901 Graphic Arts Edition is an ideal solution to meet the expanding demand for shorter print-runs, variable data printing and rapid delivery on a wide range of substrates.

By combining Heidelberg’s Prinect workflow and color management solutions with the dual platforms of offset (for example, with the Speedmaster 52 Anicolor press) and digital printing (with the Ricoh Pro C901 Graphic Arts Edition), print service providers will be able to derive greater profitability from shortrun jobs and simplify color and job management.

For the global rollout, Heidelberg will follow a sequential approach in order to guarantee the highest available service level to its customer base. In April 2011, customers in Germany and the UK were able to purchase the Ricoh Pro C901 Graphic Arts Edition from Heidelberg. Both companies have begun the rollout for other Asian markets and are working on the rollout for China. The Eastern European market is targeted to rollout by drupa 2012, closing the worldwide process.

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, today unveiled a first-of-its-kind iPad app designed specifically to help grow commercial printing businesses.
The Ricoh TotalFlow Production App is a business development tool that helps commercial printers increase sales of high-value services via iPad-driven marketing presentations that guide face-to-face selling.
The app also helps these businesses operate more efficiently by providing online supplies ordering, service requests, user manuals, on-demand video training, and an up-to-the-minute media/substrate guide. All of these services, tailored within the app to the specific Ricoh production printer(s) a customer owns, can help sharply reduce costs.

The app in action
Consider a customer eager to order 5,000 identical postcards promoting a new venture. That’s a low-margin, low-return campaign for the print/marketing services provider and the customer. Ricoh’s app helps foster the conversation between the PSP and the customer about the value of customized, and even multi-channel campaigns. The salesperson can use a presentation, video and white paper in the app to counsel the new client on the value and ROI associated with variable data printing (VDP), personalized images, QR Codes, personalized landing pages (pURLs) and more.

“The growing list of tools contained and accessible through the app help make the commercial printing business owner/salesperson a true business consultant able to sell more services of higher value, and deepen the customer relationship,” said Tim Vellek, vice president, Production Printing Business Group, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “The app’s self-service capabilities help Ricoh customers get more satisfaction and return from their production printers. An app like this is unique in our industry, and it’s a platform we’re building on.”

Other scenarios
Maximizing uptime. A Ricoh Production Printer has reached the point of requiring preventative maintenance. The operator, using the Ricoh TotalFlow Production App, contacts Ricoh service and a call is placed. For those customers who take advantage of Ricoh’s Trained Customer Replacement Units (TCRU) program, the operator can click through a video tutorial of the parts replacement procedure right on the tablet, leading to increased uptime and printer availability.

Printing innovation. The owner of a chic new restaurant has a fresh graphic design concept for a menu. The commercial printing salesperson finds her an exotic new substrate from the iPad app’s Media Guide to complement the design. The customer is delighted with the suggestion, confident it will distinguish her business.

To help drive successful profit- and reputation-making scenarios like these, the Ricoh TotalFlow Production App aggregates a broad range of multimedia content, including original material available only through the app.

The Ricoh TotalFlow Production App is available for free to any registered member of the Ricoh Business Booster resource center, a value-add program available at no cost to any Ricoh production printer owner.

Ricoh will demo the Ricoh TotalFlow Production App next week at GRAPH EXPO 2011, the largest graphic communications exhibition and educational conference, in Booth 2600. The conference runs Sept. 11-14, 2011, at McCormick Place South, Chicago. The app is available today on the App Store.

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions, today announced that it has installed five Ricoh Pro C901 Graphic Arts Edition color production printing systems at five Consolidated Graphics, Inc. (NYSE: CGX) locations. These Ricoh systems provide Consolidated Graphics with greater versatility, superior quality and faster turnaround times to better meet customers’ wide range of design and printing needs.

“Our team investigated several different digital presses, and the Ricoh Pro C901 Graphic Arts Edition stood out because it produces great quality, giving our companies the ability to offer more robust graphic design and customized collateral via variable data technology,” said Ric Davis, Executive Vice President of Purchasing and Operations for CGX. “The Ricoh Pro C901 Graphic Arts Edition also features an attractive price point, from the initial purchase to the consumables.”

Engineered to meet the demanding needs of the production print environment, the Ricoh Pro C901 Graphic Arts Edition is engineered to deliver exceptional quality and performance for the most complex applications. It combines consistent 1200 dpi output with 90 pages-per-minute speed, regardless of media type or weight, or even when it is duplexing. It delivers near-offset results with Ricoh’s new PxP™ chemical toners and oil-free fusing technology, where smaller, more uniform toner particles deliver sharper images and better fills with a matte finish for commercial-quality output.
Its modular design enables a number of input and output configurations, and offers many production tools for advanced page programming requirements like tabs, inserts, covers and chapter breaks.

“The Ricoh Pro C901 Graphic Arts Edition provides customers with exceptional color quality, extensive finishing options, and complete end-to-end workflow solutions,” says Brian Balow, Vice President, Production Sales, Ricoh U.S. “In addition, through our experience in digital printing, we can help large and small printers expand their digital printing business and assist them in using technology and advanced solutions to develop and grow their business and offerings. We are proud to continue our strong relationship with Consolidated Graphics.”

“Our strong relationship and proven track record with Ricoh were key in the decision to purchase the Ricoh Pro C901 Graphic Arts Edition,” said Davis. “The Ricoh account team knows our business, and they made recommendations based on our needs. In addition, Ricoh’s service technicians are professional, responsive and knowledgeable about the Ricoh Pro C901 Graphic Arts Edition.”

Ricoh production print customers can also take advantage of the Ricoh Business Booster Program, an integrated package of services and tools designed to help customers grow their business. June 2011

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions, today announced that Buyers Laboratory Inc. (BLI) has given the Ricoh Aficio MP C400SR a Highly Recommended and Highly Reliable rating. BLI cited the device’s flawless durability performance as well as its ease of use as key factors for these ratings.

“Ricoh’s entry into the high-end A4 color market with the Aficio MP C400SR gave an extraordinary performance throughout its lab evaluation,” said Marlene Orr, BLI senior analyst for printers/A4 MFPs. “The unit offers a competitive feature set and a competitive price tag, plus a toner cost per page that is among the lowest for this class, all while delivering faster than average speeds and robust scanning, making it a strong value. We highly recommend the Aficio MP C400SR for mid-size workgroups with monthly volumes up to 6,500 pages.”

BLI found the Aficio MP C400SR helps reduce the learning curve for users by combining the simple maintenance procedures of Ricoh’s printers (easy to replace keyed toner cartridges) with the walkup ease-of-use of its copier line (large 8.5” touch screen and consistent menu system). While the drums have rated yields of 60,000, BLI technicians completed 87,500 impressions without a single misfeed or being prompted to change the drums. Productivity when printing BLI’s job stream from both PCL and Adobe® PostScript® 3™ drivers was above average for legal-size color MFPs in this class. In addition, productivity when printing multiple sets in color and black simplex and duplex modes was above average.
“We are excited to receive these positive ratings from BLI, which reinforce our commitment to providing our customers with products and services that are not only cost effective but also improve productivity,” said Shun Sato, senior vice president, Marketing, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “By allowing our customers to spend less time learning how to use the equipment and maintain the equipment we enable them to easily manage, print and share documents so they are better able to focus on their core business.”

Ricoh released the Aficio MP C400SR in January 2011 as part of the MP C300/C400 Series. This A4 series provides a small footprint with tools and capabilities that maximize efficiency, lower total cost of ownership, and make it ideal for smaller workspaces. With the Aficio MP C400SR, Document Management Solutions can be controlled through an easy-to-maneuver 8.5” color touch panel display, which can adjust to a comfortable position for all users.

The system offers a number of valuable standard features, including Print-from/Scan-to Media, genuine Adobe PostScript3, a Java VM card for simple installation of software for expanded functionality, DataOverwriteSecurity System (DOSS) and Hard Disk Drive Encryption. System and supply usage can be controlled on an individual or workgroup basis, which the User Account Limit features. Additionally, users can enhance security and make both log-in and IPP passwords harder to compromise with Scan-to-Webmail (SMTP over SSL).

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions, presented two high school students with the Ricoh Sustainable Development Award. Ricoh presented the award at the 2011 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), the world’s largest pre-college science competition showcasing over 1,600 of the world’s leading young talent and their independent scientific research projects. The winning students each received a $12,500 scholarship from Ricoh for their impressive technical innovations in Generating Clean Electrical Tidal Power and Solar Energy.

The two recipients of this year’s Ricoh Sustainable Development Award are Kyle Scott Saleeby, age 16, from Niceville High School in Niceville, FL, and Yinshuo Zhang, age 16, from Mankato West High School in Mankato, MN.

Using an original waterwheel design, Kyle Saleeby produced usable quantities of clean electrical power from tidal water flow. He created his waterwheel out of recycled materials and optimized its operation through years of testing and the creation of a computer program for testing. Even in its prototype design, Kyle’s one meter squared waterwheel is said to be able to produce enough energy to power LED streetlights over a 1,000 meter bridge in his hometown. The waterwheel’s application goes well beyond tidal zones and can be used in areas with flowing water and, due to its small size, has limited interference with the surrounding environment.

Yinshuo Zhang set out to design a low-cost solar energy system suitable to power a typical North American house. His unique design approximates the performance of parabolic concentrators using a series of much less expensive flat mirrors. Based on Yinshuo’s prototype design, a 1.3 x 2.1 meter array could be the first residential concentrator photovoltaic system to achieve the observed levels of economy, versatility and environmental sustainability.

“This award is representative of Ricoh’s continued commitment to education and innovation,” stated Robert F. Whitehouse, Director, Environmental Management and Product Compliance, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “This year, we are proud to present this award to two well-deserving students who have successfully demonstrated the importance and feasibility of environmentally conscious and sustainable technology in today’s society.”

The Intel ISEF provides a forum each May for high school students (grades 9-12) from more than 65 countries, regions and territories to showcase their independent research. Each year, millions of students worldwide compete in local and school-sponsored science fairs. The winners of these events go on to participate in Intel ISEF-affiliated regional and state fairs from which the best win the opportunity to attend the Intel ISEF. A team of judges from academia and business selected the winners of the Ricoh Sustainable Development Award.

2011 marks the seventh consecutive year that Ricoh Americas Corporation has been providing scholarships to students whose projects best reflect the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) values of sustainability for organizational and societal success: economic, social, and environmental.

The awards were presented on May 12, 2011 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in California.

May 10 - RESUMPTION OF TONER PRODUCTION AT TOHOKU RICOH
Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions, today announced that it has installed a Ricoh Pro 907 digital production printer and a Ricoh Pro C720 color production system for Knight Media, Inc. of Lake Charles, La. These systems give Knight Media the versatility, superior quality and fast turnaround times needed to meet their customers’ wide range of creative design and printing needs.

“With these two Ricoh systems, no matter what the jobs are, we can turn them around quickly at an attractive price point for our customers,” said Chuck Ehlers, President, Knight Media, Inc. “The speed and quality of the Ricoh Pro 907 and Ricoh Pro C720s are outstanding. Our customers cannot tell the difference between the quality of their output versus offset print, and they can’t believe how quickly we can produce their projects.”

The Ricoh Pro 907 is designed to meet the unique needs of data centers, service bureaus, digital printers and other production print specialists to handle peak volume more easily, improve redundancy and meet tight deadlines for extremely large jobs. The Ricoh Pro C720s is a versatile color system that represents an advance in efficiency and productivity, combining consistent 1200 dpi output with 72 pages-per-minute speed. It utilizes Ricoh’s new image processing technology for unsurpassed quality and quick turnaround times, and can handle a wide range of media, including weight ranges up to 110 lb. cover. Its modular design enables a number of input and output configurations, and it offers many production tools for advanced page programming requirements, including high-resolution scanning, copying and automatic distribution to multiple destinations, including e-mail, URL and FTP.
“The RICOH Pro 907 and RICOH Pro C720s have raised the bar in digital print productivity, combining superior quality with high speeds and state-of-the-art workflow applications, all at terrific price points for businesses,” explains Brian Balow, Vice President, Production Sales, Ricoh U.S. “They are excellent solutions for customers like Knight Media, who utilize them for the creative design and quick, efficient production of the print materials they create for their customers.”

About Knight Media
Knight Media, Inc. began life as Knight Manufacturing, Inc., a company with rotary offset equipment that primarily served business forms brokers, office supplies and other resellers of forms. As the forms market changed gradually, Knight Manufacturing did as well with the addition of larger sheet-fed equipment and a completely new line-up of products which includes process color posters, flyers, booklets, event and advertising collateral in the half-size format. Along the way, graphic design, website design, direct mail capabilities, and full bindery capabilities were added. While this transition was going on, a decision was made to rename the company to more appropriately describe our products – Knight Media, Inc. – our present name. With the addition of the new digital equipment, short run black & white or color and the ability to add variable data and mailing operations in the same pass, plus an online bindery has met with huge acceptance from our clients, both with agency and direct retail sales.

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, today introduced @Remote Enterprise Pro along with the @Remote Connector option, a server-based fleet management software application that extends Ricoh’s Intelligent Remote Management System capabilities to enterprise-level organizations. With the @Remote Connector option added, organizations are able to see their population and utilization of devices through a dedicated online portal, allowing for IT departments to monitor and manage their fleet from within.

@Remote Enterprise Pro is an important tool in Ricoh’s Managed Document Services (MDS) program, which focuses on total cost of ownership, business process improvement, security and compliance, and environmental sustainability. This new addition to the @Remote family is geared toward organizations with hundreds to thousands of networked printer and digital multifunction product (MFP) output devices, enabling these large print fleets to be managed from a single application. @Remote Enterprise Pro compliments an already robust set of MDS tools.

By centralizing fleet management, @Remote Enterprise Pro permits simplified management of print devices across multiple locations. IT Administrators are able to map, monitor and configure Ricoh devices remotely, greatly reducing help desk calls and simplifying the IT support needed to manage large print fleets. The software’s optimized performance improves the process for device discovery and polling, further saving time and reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO) for devices being managed by the software.

“@Remote Enterprise Pro is Ricoh’s device management solution that enables larger organizations to manage their print devices and have access to secure fleet reporting. This unique blend of onsite print device management and fleet utilization reports provides an enterprise with the necessary tools to improve day-to-day administrative tasks and streamline their bottom line,” said Shun Sato, senior vice president, Marketing, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “@Remote provides a means to monitor the ever-changing population and device utilization data to help organizations to optimize their fleet of print devices.”

@Remote Enterprise Pro offers access to detailed fleet population and utilization reports found at Ricoh’s secure Web-based portal. Administrators can scrutinize page counts, page sizes, duplex versus simplex, monochrome versus color and other metrics to better track network activity. Also, @Remote Green Reports allow businesses to monitor, assess and report imaging fleet performance and employee printing trends on Ricoh devices in support of internal sustainability and/or cost reduction goals.

In addition, @Remote Enterprise Pro can automate service alerts, toner alerts and meter submission, reducing labor intensive tasks by permitting devices to communicate directly to the service provider. Remote firmware upgrades can also be made seamlessly by @Remote, which improves uptime by facilitating the installation of upgrades without user intervention.

Ricoh Company, Ltd., a worldwide leader in digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, announced today that it has been recognized by the Ethisphere Institute as one of the 2011 World’s Most Ethical Companies. This is the third year in a row that the company is thus honored for going beyond legal minimums, introducing innovative ideas to benefit the public and forcing its competitors to follow suit by consistently upping the ante for what it takes to be an ethical leader. Out of a record number of nominations for the award, Ricoh secured a hard-earned spot on the list by going the extra mile and implementing upright business practices and initiatives that are instrumental to the company’s success, benefit the community, and raise the bar for ethical standards within the industry.

"Ricoh is committed to a corporate and business structure that can responsibly respond to changes in today’s world. This includes evaluating Ricoh’s role and the role of each and every employee in order to provide products and services that truly satisfy our customers’ needs worldwide,” said Mariko Azuma, General Manager, CSR Office. “Being named to Ethisphere’s 2011 World’s Most Ethical Companies list is a testament to the solid foundation we have in place.”

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, today announced the availability of the Aficio SP C320DN color laser printer. Faster and more efficient than its predecessors – the Aficio SP C311N and SP C312DN – the SP C320DN offers enhancements such as a new Economy Color Mode and ECO Night Sensor that help to deliver sustainable cost savings to any organization.

With the Aficio SP C320DN, businesses can achieve measurable savings while running on schedule with remarkable speed and versatility. The new Economy Color Mode complements a managed print strategy to help monitor, control and improve output by allowing users to choose when to print, draft or review quality documents, or when to print presentation-quality color documents with resolutions up to 1,200 dpi. With a 26 pages-per-minute output speed, workflow moves quickly, whether printing in full color or black and white. Time spent replenishing paper is reduced with a standard 500-sheet paper tray accommodating up to 8.5” x 14” size paper, as well as a Bypass Tray that handles 100 sheets up to 120 lbs. It can also print banners up to 8.5” x 49.6” in size. With an optional Paper Feed Unit, paper capacity can be expanded up to 1,100 sheets.

Many of the Aficio SP C320DN’s features are designed to reduce energy consumption, paper and toner use and environmental impact. The new ECO Night Sensor allows businesses to preset an amount of time for the printer to shut down automatically after office lights have been turned off. When the ECO Night Sensor senses no lighting it causes the printer’s power switch to physically turn to the off position, eliminating electricity usage while not in use. When switching the power back on, the SP C320DN comes back to ready condition with a 20 second or less warm-up time (recovery time from Sleep mode: less than 15 seconds). Standard automatic duplexing reduces paper usage and costs, while the Economy Color Mode helps to minimize toner usage by allowing users to be more conscious when applying color to documents.

Questions about both print and electronic document security are no longer a concern with the Aficio SP C320DN’s multi-layered security features. Standard features include User Authentication that restricts printer access to authorized users only and data stored within the printer. Built-in network encryption also prevents the interception of unprotected data streams. For enhanced security, businesses can equip the SP C320DN with an optional Hard Disk Drive (HDD) that comes with Ricoh’s DataOverwriteSecurity System (DOSS). This utility effectively overwrites data on the HDD after each print job.

“In a current business environment that is constantly in flux, printing remains one of the fundamental functions that companies cannot operate without,” said Shun Sato, senior vice president, Marketing, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “The Ricoh Aficio SP C320DN allows businesses to produce brilliant color output while addressing document security and maintaining sustainable printing practices.”

Mar 14 - SUPPORT FOR THE GREAT EAST JAPAN EARTHQUAKE AND TSUNAMI
Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, today announced the release of the Ricoh Aficio® MP W3601 Wide Format Digital Imaging System. A multifunction device, the system is equipped with built-in color scanning and can support a customizable workflow with the integration of software solutions to further expand functionality, which can increase productivity and save money.

The Ricoh Aficio MP W3601 provides critical workflow functions that are essential in a compact, wide format device, including producing clear black & white documents at 600 dpi resolution and adding a built-in color scanning option. The optional color scanning allows users to capture marked-up changes in the field and deliver them directly to the designer, eliminating time-consuming mail or expensive courier delivery. Users can scan a full range of documents, including blueprints, architectural drawings, detailed maps, oversized documents and photos, and send them directly to e-mail, a Server Message Block, folder, FTP, URL, a Network Control Panel or the standard document server. Additionally, the Aficio MP W3601 offers a host of standard security solutions, including encryption that secures data on the hard disk drive (HDD), the DataOverwriteSecurity System (DOSS) that when activated automatically overwrites the HDD after each job, and network authentication that limits device access to authorized users only.

“The Ricoh Aficio MP W3601 is designed to easily work the way our customers work, helping them be more productive and stay competitive,” said Shun Sato, senior vice president, Marketing, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “In addition, the Ricoh Aficio MP W3601 is now capable of integrating software solutions, whether of Ricoh or of a third party, to further simplify the workflow and increase productivity. With this device printing, copying and color-scanning can all be done securely from one’s own office, saving significant amounts of time and money.”

The Ricoh Aficio MP W3601 features various Scan-to options designed to increase efficiency and reduce cost, including:

• Receive instant document portability with the optional Scan-to-USB option, which makes sharing project documents easier than ever by scanning directly from the USB port on machine to a USB device.
• Scan-to-Email eliminates postage and overnight costs by instantly emailing documents anywhere in the world.
• Scan-to-Folder converts paper documents to electronic files and stores them anywhere on the network saving space and time.
• Scan-to-FTP sends large files quickly by bypassing the mail server, while Scan-to-URL reduces network congestion by sending a URL or NCP link instead of sending an entire file.

Additionally, users can add GlobalScan NX, which converts scanned paper documents into electronic files and routes them to network folders, e-mail addresses, fax machines and other destinations. This provides the user with a secure environment through encryption and network authentication to transmit information. GlobalScan NX also preserves documents electronically in an organized file system and captures metadata based on clients and jobs for future retrieval, rather than storing hard copy documents, which can consume valuable floor space

The three new widgets – Scan to Evernote®, Scan to Gmail™ and Scan to Google® Docs – give users a convenient and direct connection from certain Ricoh multifunction products (MFPs) to the cloud.

“Today, over 30 million people use Google services, such as Gmail and Google Docs, and there are more than four million Evernote users. Our customers demand and benefit from the latest in technology, therefore it was important to us to offer a solution that fits in with these tools,” said Shinji Satoh, director, Solutions Marketing, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “App2Me was designed to enable our customers to utilize their Ricoh MFP in a way that is easy, intuitive and convenient. These new widgets broaden the solutions we can provide to our customers to help them improve their workflows.”

App2Me provides functions in widget form, enabling MFPs to be used in conjunction with cloud computing services that offer business applications over the Internet. Available on Google Desktop™, App2Me was first featured on Ricoh’s Aficio® MP 2851 and MP 3351, and is also available on the new Aficio MP 4001/MP 5001 Series and other Ricoh MFPs.

App2Me offers users convenience and personalization, even on shared multifunction devices. With App2Me, users can print, scan and perform various functions using individual settings that don’t affect the MFP’s overall settings, maintaining personalization and convenience. To activate the solution, users first download the App2Me Manager and widgets to a desktop PC or laptop running Google Desktop. Once installed, the App2Me Manager automatically discovers all App2Me-enabled MFPs on the network and communicates with those devices adding the user’s profile, as well as the widgets the user has downloaded. Users can go to any of these devices to execute their widget based workflow.

Designed not only to reduce process and complexity for the user, App2Me also improves workflow. Through App2Me’s innovative technology, widgets can be created to combine, distribute, edit and create documents, as well as perform many other tasks automatically and simultaneously. The user benefits by having these settings programmed once locally, which greatly reduces the need for trial-and-error printing, scanning, etc., as well as saves time. App2Me maximizes MFPs beyond printing and scanning by providing a variety of options to output data on paper. In addition, App2Me can connect to web-based services or network business applications to publish scanned information.

App2Me’s key benefits include:
•Seamless integration: ability to download widgets to the desktop and use them on any Ricoh MFP enabled with App2Me.
•Portability and personalization: no matter the location, user experience at each App2Me-enabled MFP remains completely personalized for maximum convenience.
•Simplified workflows: widgets can be used to print, scan and distribute documents in fewer steps and without involving IT.
•Maximized productivity: App2Me improves efficiency through widgets that control a virtually endless array of MFP, software, Internet Service or Enterprise Application driven workflows.

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions, today announced that IKON Office Solutions, a Ricoh company, was voted the best document management service provider by the readers of three major law journals. IKON placed first in The New York Law Journal’s first annual rankings survey, first in The Connecticut Law Tribune’s sixth annual readers poll, and in California, first place in The Recorder’s fourth annual The Best issue. IKON was also voted one of the top office equipment suppliers by readers of the Legal Intelligencer in Philadelphia.

“We are delighted to receive these awards from the readership of such prestigious publications. They are a testament to our ability to provide law firms and legal departments with the right solutions to solve their document challenges,” said Mark Davey, Vice President, Legal Enterprise Solutions for IKON. “We are proud to provide document management services to a very large number of legal organizations, including 90 percent of the Am Law 200 law firms and many of the Fortune 1000 Corporate Counsel.”

This year, thousands of readers cast votes across the four publications. The voting was conducted via online ballots compiled by the publications. Readers were notified of the ballot through direct emails and online advertisements linking to the ballot across ALM’s network of websites. Each ballot consisted of approximately 40 categories encompassing areas such as Technology, Research, Accounting, Insurance, Financial Services, Litigation Support, Education, Recruiting and Staffing. Once voting was completed, the ballot was scrubbed of all non-eligible, non-end-user votes. The final totals and rankings reflect only the votes cast by legitimate end-users.

These polls are not meant to be scientific surveys of marketplace size or sales, but rather measures of the loyalty and satisfaction readers have with vendors. “The surveys were conducted by legal industry publications belonging to the ALM media group. They were designed to give a voice to our legal communities, enabling them to say which vendors are best to work with,” said Steve Lincoln, Publisher, New York Law Journal.

IKON Legal Enterprise Solutions offers a comprehensive portfolio of document management products and services designed to help law firms and corporate counsel manage their entire document workflow, from on-site scanning, copy and mail center management to off-site imaging and processing and other litigation support services, including IKON Litovation Solutions. IKON Litovation Solutions integrates a suite of best-in-class technologies that provides customers with customized support throughout the entire electronic discovery process including data forensics, electronic discovery, document imaging and document coding.

February 2011

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, today announced that the Ricoh Electronics, Inc. headquarters in Tustin, Calif. has completed the installation of a rooftop solar energy system, which will supply up to 10 percent (approximately 350,000 kWh) of the headquarters building’s electricity. The system will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 98.1 metric tons/year* and will provide Ricoh Electronics, Inc. with annual electricity cost savings of more than $56,000.

Ricoh has been steadfastly committed to the environment for over 30 years. In 1976, Ricoh established the Environmental Protection Group responsible for keeping Ricoh’s environmental goals and strategies as key considerations when planning, developing, designing and promoting new products and services. In 2003, Ricoh introduced its first “Eco-Board” in Osaka, Japan, a billboard powered solely by renewable energy. A billboard powered 100% by the sun debuted in New York City’s Times Square early 2010. Ricoh also set medium and long-term targets in 2009, to reduce the total CO2 emissions to 30% by fiscal year 2020 and 87.5% by fiscal year 2050, as compared to fiscal year 2000.

Ricoh Electronics, Inc.’s solar-powered facility is another example of Ricoh’s continued dedication to the environment. Ricoh’s Atsugi and Numazu facilities in Japan currently have solar power systems installed, but the Tustin facility will be the first outside of Japan.

“Installation of this system is a natural extension of Ricoh’s continued focus on developing and implementing environmental protection activities that lead to prevention of pollution and more efficient use of resources,” said Yoshinori Yamashita, President, Ricoh Electronics, Inc.

Ricoh Electronics, Inc. engaged SPG Solar Inc., a leader in the development, design and installation of high-performance commercial solar energy systems, to manage the project. SPG Solar installed nearly 1,000 cutting-edge, silicone crystal solar panels to create the solar energy system on Ricoh Electronics, Inc.’s existing headquarters building. The system takes advantage of Ricoh Electronics, Inc.’s location in sunny Southern California. Ricoh Electronics, Inc. offset approximately 60 percent of the solar system’s cost by incentives offered by the federal and state government, and expects to recoup its costs for the project in 5.5 years.

“It is commendable that Ricoh Electronics, Inc. has continued their commitment to building such a sizable system,” said Chris Robine, President and CEO of SPG Solar. “At SPG Solar, we rarely come across a client that is willing to take so many steps to show such a serious commitment to sustainability. That Ricoh Electronics, Inc. has done so is very impressive.”

Ricoh Electronics, Inc. achieved zero waste to landfill status in 2001, and all its operations have maintained certification to ISO 14001 since 1999. In addition, Ricoh Electronics, Inc. employees are actively engaged in sustainability initiatives, including submitting 1,360 improvement suggestions in FY 2009, which resulted in over $2 million in savings.

Ricoh Electronics, Inc. hosted an event today to unveil the new solar energy system. The Mayor of Tustin, Jerry Amante, and the Consul General of Japan, Consul General Junichi Ihara attended the event in support of Ricoh Electronics, Inc.’s environmental efforts.

In addition, the system also offers print and copy output speeds of 20 and 25 pages-per-minute, respectively, in either full-color or black and white. Both models have fast first-copy times of 6.4 seconds for black and white, and 9.2 seconds for full-color documents.

Feb 3 - RICOH MAKES "GLOBAL 100" LIST FOR 7TH YEAR IN A ROW

January 2011

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions, today announced that IKON Office Solutions, a Ricoh company, has entered into an agreement with Hill Schwartz Spilker Keller LLC (HSSK) to be the exclusive provider of Remlox remote acquisition technology in the United States. Remlox is a patent pending PC data forensics software product developed by HSSK. As the exclusive provider of the Remlox technology in the U.S., IKON leverages HSSK’s broad expertise in collection and data processing along with their innovative technology. Utilizing the Remlox technology allows IKON’s customers to save time and money while acquiring data related to litigation or related investigations in a defensible manner.

The Remlox technology is designed to “self-collect” a complete sector-by-sector forensic image of a personal computer hard drive, allowing custodians to gather and transmit evidence without sending computer forensic experts to the client’s premises. IKON has utilized the Remlox technology for two years and now includes it as part of its IKON Litovation Solutions eDiscovery suite of services. Because the Remlox technology is deployed using existing courier services and can be activated by the custodian, acquisitions can be performed quickly in even the most remote locations at a fraction of the cost of more traditional methodologies.

The combination of the Remlox software, HSSK’s accredited computer forensics lab and IKON Legal Document Services provides a complete solution for the collection, verification, logging and auditing of electronic data. To gather information from a personal computer, Remlox is couriered to a custodian on an encrypted USB device. The custodian attaches the unit to the computer and Remlox automatically creates a complete physical hard drive image. A Chain of Custody form is then completed and the unit is sent back to HSSK’s forensics lab where certified professionals use the acquired data to perform verification and preliminary electronic data discovery services. IKON professionals manage and integrate the process with other services to provide a total solution.

“We have responded to our customer’s collection needs by providing exclusive access to the Remlox remote acquisition technology. It will be a core solution in the IKON Litovation Solutions eDiscovery suite,” said Eric Wangler, Vice President, IKON Legal Enterprise Solutions. ”The collection process is quick, convenient and saves money by reducing travel expenses and expert onsite fees for forensic engineers. Additionally, the acquired data cannot be changed so the collection process is defensible in court.”

“The Remlox technology is a forensically sound ‘self-collection’ tool that has been used in more than 18 countries for forensic acquisition of computer systems in support of clients involved in numerous discovery matters,” said David Greetham, Managing Director of the Computer Forensics & E-Discovery Group at HSSK, developers of the Remlox tool. “In one example, the technology was deployed by IKON for a large pharmaceutical company that needed to quickly and inexpensively obtain forensic images from literally hundreds of salespeople in different locations throughout the United States. The result far exceeded everyone’s expectations. Partnering with IKON, the largest provider of legal document services in the U.S., will help us quickly spread the benefits of the Remlox technology to a wide audience.”

IKON Litovation Solutions is a suite of best-in-class technologies that provides customers with customized support throughout the entire electronic discovery reference model including data forensics, electronic discovery, document imaging, document coding and web-hosting. These technologies are part of IKON Legal Enterprise Solutions’ comprehensive portfolio of document management products and services designed to help law firms and corporate counsel manage their entire document workflow, from on-site copy and mail centers, to off-site imaging and processing work and other litigation support services.

In a global event, held in Tokyo, London & New York, Ricoh Company, Ltd., a worldwide leader in digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, today announced an investment designed to aggressively accelerate its shift to a services business model as a key growth strategy, building upon its core foundation of industry-leading hardware and software technologies and document and IT-related services. To advance this shift, Ricoh plans to invest $300 million USD over three years in its global Managed Document Services (MDS) infrastructure, underscoring the company’s commitment to its continued partnership with its customers, helping them to grow their bottom line through effective document management, improved workflow and increased productivity.

New Research Reveals C-Suite Mistakenly Believes
Document-Related Costs are Insignificant

Based on research from industry analyst firm IDC and Ricoh MDS engagements, a company with annual revenue of $250 million USD can save more than $6 million USD annually* through effective document management, according to Angele Boyd, IDC Group VP, General Manager, Imaging/Output Document Solutions & SMB. This includes savings of observed costs, such as printing, as well as unobserved costs connected to IT support, documents and records management, environmental, regulatory compliance and end-user productivity.

Ricoh also unveiled new research from a series of global focus groups and surveys with C-suite executives and senior IT managers. The research, conducted in partnership with IDC, found that while businesses are aware that they need to gain more insight into their information and document workflows, they continue to have little understanding of the specific amount of money spent in this area. This is largely attributed to the lack of consolidation of both observed and unobserved costs and fragmented distribution of these costs across different departments within the organization.

In addition, there is low awareness among executives of the positive impact a document management strategy could have on the business, including how much could be saved and the overall impact on the bottom line.

Harnessing the power of information contained in documents and processes as a core company asset is critical since the way organizations communicate and conduct business is changing at an unprecedented pace. Ricoh’s accelerated shift to services, with a strong focus on MDS, will help customers to become more responsive to the continual flow of information as they address the changes in their industries.

“Ricoh recognizes that global workforce trends, new technologies and the economy are transforming the way our customers must approach document management. It is now a key priority for CIOs to ensure their organizations are ready to meet the challenges brought by these forces,” said Mr. Shiro Kondo, President and CEO, Ricoh Company, Ltd. “Therefore, we are making additional investments to help lead our customers in the implementation of secure information infrastructure solutions that help them to become more agile, responsive and productive. Through our on-site and off-site support, we help our customers stay focused on revenue-generating activities, while we do what we do best – optimize workflows.”

A Holistic Approach

Ricoh’s investment in its global MDS infrastructure is designed to strengthen its best practices approach and technologies across its global footprint and help the company achieve an annual MDS revenue target of $3.3 billion USD by FY2013.

Investments will focus on reinforcing Ricoh’s key strengths and leadership including:

•Enhancing Ricoh’s adaptive customer-focused approach, in which Ricoh partners with businesses to help them meet their goals. This approach includes development of Ricoh’s global change management professional services offering, based upon Prosci’s ADKAR® change management methodology, which is designed to help employees permanently change costly document-related behaviors. In addition, Ricoh has globally adopted the ITIL® service delivery framework, which is the most widely used approach to IT services management. Ricoh is also increasing the number of services teams professionally certified in the ITIL® and the ADKAR® methodologies.
•Improving Ricoh’s holistic, vendor-agnostic approach to information, infrastructure and process management. This approach allows Ricoh to manage a company’s entire fleet, regardless of manufacturer. This holistic approach will be further enhanced as Ricoh accelerates the delivery of a suite of cloud-type tools for device and print management, optimization and decision support.
•Broadening Ricoh’s global MDS workforce as well as globally standardizing its sales and services training. This is critical to maintaining a globally consistent approach to services delivery, regardless of where the customer’s offices are located. Ricoh has one of the industry’s largest direct sales and services organizations, which currently includes 30,000 services professionals.

Ricoh has delivered custom MDS solutions to customers around the world. For customer success stories and testimonials on Ricoh’s MDS approach, please click here.

*Projected annual savings in document management costs for a typical company of this size based upon IDC research and select Ricoh MDS engagements. Individual company results may vary and actual cost savings are not guaranteed.

Scan-to-Webmail makes both log-in and IPP passwords difficult to compromise.

System Management
The Aficio MP C300/MP C300SR/MP C400/MP C400SR features User Account Limits, which allows companies to track costs and reinforce economical supply usage by assigning amounts of output or color usage-per group or individual.
